Hello, my name is John Cougar and like my namesake I will go down in history as one of the best cat purring vocalists in Australia. Imagine you and I on the couch at the end of the day, you’re exhausted from your 9-5 office lifestyle, I’m exhausted from practicing my daily vinyasas and meditation, we sit together, you pat me and I send you to sleep with my deep bass tones. I am the Robert Redford of cats, a downright sweetheart, I’m yet to meet a human that hasn’t fallen for me!
I am an 8 year old retired street cat seeking a quiet indoor lifestyle where I can peacefully practice my yoga and ‘speedhump’ work (my foster Mums think I look like a speedhump when I sit on the floor as I like to tuck all my limbs in and arch my back as high as it will go). I’ve also been told I look like a sweet potato on occasion, however this sentiment displeases me. I love two legs but not four legs, my ideal forever home is to be surrounded by likeminded metropolitans or hipsters, but not with other pets or children.
I am shy around new people but don’t worry, inevitably I will start head bumping you too for pats and cuddles. I do like having a small enclosed area where I can retreat to for sleeping and meditation however I have recently become a fan of open spaces, including the couch, so I’d love to watch TV with you and gossip about the leadership spill. I’ve been through a lot in my years on the streets and have much peace and wisdom to share. Schedule an appointment to come meet me in my Foster home in Shenton Park for some snugs and hear me purrrrr. In the meantime take a look at some more photos of me by clicking here.
Other information about me
Johnny, John and J Cougz are all acceptable nicknames for me.
I exclusively eat Royal Canin GastroIntestinal Food - it’s the only thing that gels well with my cat tummy.
I had my canine teeth removed at the beginning of the year, I have recovered very well from surgery, but please don’t make fun of me - I’m a little self-conscious about it.
John is on a special diet - ask staff for more information when you inquire. John is one of our special FIV positive cats. This means you need to take extra special care of this handsome man. FIV+ cats have to protect their immune systems - just like humans who have recovered from a health issue. So you will need to ensure he has his annual health check and vaccinations plus regular worm and flea treatments (just as you would for any cat). In support of our lovely FIV+ cats the annual vaccination is free at the Cat Haven Vet Clinic. To protect both him and other cats John needs to be an indoor cat and, unless you have another FIV+ cat, he needs to be your one-and-only feline fur-child.
To meet me in foster care please contact our foster care department on:
The foster carer will then be in touch to discuss this further and arrange a meeting. If after leaving your details you have not heard from anyone after 48 hours, please let us know. Once you’ve decided to give a foster cat or kitten a furrever home you’ll need to come to Cat Haven in person to complete the adoption paperwork before taking them home. We can’t wait to hear from you!
