Found a Cat?

If you find a stray cat, there are several actions to take to find a happy solution.

  • Initially, you should contact local vet clinics to see if they have a lost cat report that matches with your found cat.
  • You should speak with your neighbours (within a 10-house radius) to ensure it doesn’t belong to a nearby household.
  • If the cat is friendly and you are able to handle it, we recommend you bring it to Cat Haven in a secure container to elliminate lengthy waiting periods for a ranger to visit.
  • If you are unable to handle a stray cat, Cat Haven's ranger service can help.

If you have no luck finding the cat's owner and if you are in a position to keep the cat, even if temporarily, we suggest that you place an advertisement in your local paper and in Saturday’s Lost & Found section of The West Australian. Also distribute posters and flyers around your neighbourhood and shopping centres. Plus, complete the attached Found Cat Report and forward by email to lostandfound@cathaven.com.au or fax to us at 9442 3636.

If you are not in a position to keep the cat, you may bring it in to Cat Haven any day (except public holidays) between 10.30am and 3.00pm.

All incoming lost cats are checked against our Lost Cat Register. If a match cannot be found, we hold healthy cats for five days for sterilised cats and three days for unsterilised cats. In their best interests, feral cats and others deemed not owned, those badly injured or severely ill cats are usually euthanased without delay. Where possible, we make every effort to contact owners beforehand.

Following the hold period, all cats are assessed for their suitability for rehoming.
