Cat Haven Promotes ‘World Spay Day’ on 25 February

Celebrate the 20th anniversary of World Spay Day on 25 February with Cat Haven. This annual event shines the light on spaying/neutering as a proven means of saving the lives of companion animals and community cats.

“Cat Haven offers subsidized sterilization and thanks to a generous State Government grant we’re able to offer a discounted ‘Snip & Chip’ deal to all concession card holders to have their cats de-sexed and micro-chipped for only $50! Our vet clinic is run by a team of experienced vets but our facilities are limited, so we focus on sterilization and micro-chipping.” Marketing Officer Chandra Woodley said. “We can’t over emphasize the importance of early sterilization of all cats.”

Cat Haven de-sexes an average of 20 cats a day, 6 days a week, which is over 3000 cats a year: that’s over 30,000 cats in the last decade, and the decline in unwanted kittens is evident. Sterilization will have a long-term positive effect on reducing the stray cat population in WA.

Cat Haven’s Marketing Officer said “The number of cats surrendered to Cat Haven in 2013 has slowly dropped by nearly 25% from the previous years and although we are still receiving thousands of cats each year, it is heartening to know that our sustained education and promotion is having a positive effect.”

“Why not adopt a cat or kitten from Cat Haven – all our cats are sold already sterilized, micro-chipped and vaccinated ready for their new home and you can adopt a Golden Oldie, over 7 years old, for just the cost of a donation.”
