Fee Free Adoptions on all adult cats over the Labour Day Long Weekend

Cat Haven Aims to Break its Adoption Record – Over 400 Cats Need a Home this Weekend.
Cat Haven is bursting at the seams with over 800 cats in their care and they are aiming to beat their historic adoption record of last year where they re-homed 399 cats for free over the Labour Day weekend.
They are having a massive adoption drive and they are giving away all their adult cats for free over the long weekend, starting this Saturday 5 March to Monday 7 March.
“Cat Haven is taking desperate measures of a fee free adoption weekend to ease the pressure of too many stray cats at the shelter. We are completely full and with this many cats, we are simply running out of money as it costs thousands of dollars a week to keep all the cats”. Cat Haven’s Marketing Officer Chandra Woodley said.
“Our staff and foster carers are at breaking point as we have over 300 cats on grounds at the moment and more than 500 cats and kittens out in temporary foster care. Although we really need the funds generated from adoption fees, we are left with no alternative than to give the adult cats away. With kittens still readily available and in demand, it is virtually impossible to re-home our older cats”. Chandra Woodley said
“Cat Haven takes in over 6700 unwanted cats a year and rehomes half of them but with kitten season still in full swing, many of the adult cats have been couped up in the shelter for far too long now. Although we are completely full, we have come way too far with our euthanasia rate at a record low of 12.5%, to be forced to put healthy cats to sleep now”. Chandra Woodley said.
Cat Haven, along with other prominent welfare shelters in Australia and the USA, have previously found no adverse outcomes from giving away their cats in desperate times and they collected a lot of money in donations and sponsorship during the adoption drive.
Chandra Woodley said “Stringent adoption standards and screening will apply as always and Cat Haven will still have the right of refusal. Of course, all our cats comply with the new Cat Laws and are sterilised, microchipped, health checked and vaccinated, even if we are giving them away free, so there has never been a better time to adopt a cat!”
People can preview their perfect free adult cat on the Cat Haven website www.cathaven.com.au in advance and visit the cats and kittens at the shelter in Shenton Park from 11am daily throughout the weekend.
