National Desexing Month!
Communities urged to get their cat desexed to help reduce the number of unwanted kittens in WA.
Australia’s cat and dog owners are being urged to get their vet on board or visit their vet for National Desexing Month in July and help reduce the number of unwanted kittens and puppies.
This year’s theme ‘Don’t Like Surprises? Desex Your Pet’ is being promoted throughout July, in partnership with Cat Haven in Perth, to support, encourage and educate people to sterilise their cats and dogs and help save lives. The National Desexing Network (NDN) is the brainchild of Animal Welfare League Queensland. Now in its twelfth year, it asks veterinarians around the country to sign up on the NDN website (ndn.org.au) to offer discounted cat and dog desexing options within their communities.
To encourage and provide an incentive to cat owners to sterilise their cats, Cat Haven and other vet clinics across WA, are participating in this national campaign, offering a variety of special deals to assist people to sterilise their cats, which is a crucial step towards reducing the number of stray animals in Western Australia.
“It’s so important to try to reduce the number of unwanted kittens and puppies before they need care. Cat Haven is participating in the NDN Month by offering cat sterilisation for only $100 for female cats and $70 for males for the whole of the month of July.” Cat Haven’s Marketing Officer Chandra Woodley said.
“They are less likely to stray, spray in and around your house, be injured fighting over territory, are more relaxed and affectionate and, generally, live longer and happier lives. And who wouldn’t want that for their cat?” Chandra Woodley said.
Every year, 200,000 healthy cats and dogs are euthanized in pounds and shelters across Australia, with over 6500 unwanted cats being dumped at Cat Haven in WA every year. “Having a cat desexed will not only reduce the chances of it wandering and getting lost or picked up by the Ranger, it will also help to reduce the number of unwanted cats in WA”. Ms Woodley said.
Cat Haven is also offering affordable Snip and Chip packages throughout July to Concession Card holders for cats over 12 months old, where cats can be sterilised and microchipped from only $80 for males and $100 for females.
‘For many people on low incomes, normal vet practice fees are out of their reach. At Cat Haven, we believe no one should be denied the love of their cat simply because they couldn’t afford to get their cat sterilised so we are here to help you.’ Cat Haven’s Marketing Officer Chandra Woodley said.
For cat sterilisation bookings, people can call Cat Haven on 9442 3600 and there are limited bookings available.
