DSH BLACK

Dennis is a very shy cat but the biggest secret smooch. He hides away from people until he’s had the chance to sniff them and make sure they’re safe, after that he won’t stop asking for pats and head and bum scratches. He literally asks that he’d be scratched while eating food. He guides me to his bowl and then stares at me until I pet him and then starts eating.

At night he hops on my bed and makes biscuits and wants to spend the night with me (but I have no pet while sleep policy unfortunately). He prefers to sleep or rest in a hide away where he cannot be seen instead of being in his bed or watching the outside world.

He has no problem using his litter box, is not a big eater and doesn’t care about treats. He just wants pets or scratches or else he’ll hide away.

I believe the ideal home for him is somewhere with multiple adults or mature kids because he loves to get as much petting as possible. He might actually benefit from slow introduction to another pet to become more sociable. Come meet him at his foster home in Highgate.

Health Issues

Dennis has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). FIV is a retrovirus that can compromise the immune system, spread by fighting and deep penetrating wounds. Once diagnosed with FIV, he was thoroughly examined by the Cat Haven Vet Clinic and found to be otherwise healthy. He should lead a normal life despite this diagnosis, but there are a few special considerations that need to be made in regards to his health and well-being long term. These include being an inside only cat; slow and careful introduction to other cats; and annual vaccinations and health checks.

Dennis has displayed during his time at Cat Haven some evidence of toileting inappropriately, such as toileting on bedding or outside the litter tray. The urine has been checked to rule out medical concerns, and it is likely that this behaviour is associated with stress and/or anxiety. It is possible that this behaviour will continue during the transition to your new home, and we cannot rule out that it may be an ongoing issue. While we hope that this behaviour will settle as your new family member settles into your home, Cat Haven does not take any responsibility for any subsequent conditions or issues that may develop in the future as a result of this condition.
