Purrsonality Traits

Nelly & Evie are two sweeties who were surrendered after their previous owners broke up. They have been described as affectionate yet independent and have lived with other cat friends before and will happily do it again if introduced slowly! They are very good girls who have settled quite well with just a bit of time and patience at their foster home.

Nelly (6 year old tabby) was quite scared at first and used hiding and hissing to help her cope. But now that she has gotten to know us and our home, she is very confident and loving, and hardly ever hisses (only if cornered and startled, and she’s all talk!). She likes to be around us most of the time, but often hides away for an afternoon snooze, before coming out at dinner time. She enjoys head, chin and back scratches for as long as you are willing to provide them and expresses her appreciation with gentle purrs. She will come and sit with us on the couch and let us know she is ready for scratches. She even tolerates being picked up and held for a short time. As for playing, she’s not too fussed, will chase the laser dot or a string toy for a short time, and she’s been known to succumb to a bout of the zoomies after a meal and a litter visit.

Evie (5 year old white and champagne) has been confident right from the start. Never hissy, she has enjoyed pats and affection all along. She is quite independent and less of a lap cat though, and prefers to find a comfy spot near us, but not on us. In the beginning, Evie was Nelly’s support animal. She hid away with her for support (she might have been a bit scared too, but she wasn’t saying so), and would come out for pats and the odd treat to show Nelly it was okay to trust. It worked wonderfully. Evie has a lovely feminine way about her. She walks softly and swishily, like a runway model. Her sweet little meow is like a song, but she really only performs at mealtime. She plays a little, but likes to find her toys herself, like a wayward milk bottle lid or a magnet off the fridge.

Evie and Nelly are both good with the litter trays and they do well on the Metabolic biscuits and wet food. They’re not too fussy. Evie needs a home where she can minimise her exposure to the sun. Email Fostercare with your phone details and we will be in contact to arrange a meeting at their foster home in Connolly.

Health Issue

Nelly has a severe heart murmur (grade 3). This murmur may possibly have adverse effects on her health in the future. However, she is currently not showing signs of heart failure.

Evie has a waiver for Weight Management. She also has a skin condition which has caused severe hair loss and itching in the past. There are a number of different things that can cause this condition, and it can be difficult to determine the underlying cause without specialists testing and trials. It is not known what causes her skin reaction, therefore it is important that you use a variety of preventative measures.

Nelly & Evie both have mild dental tartar and associated gum changes. This is very common in mature cats.
