We may be celebrating our 65th birthday this year, but why is the cat problem, still a cat problem 65 years on?

After 65 years of caring for Western Australia's cats, we're still facing many of the same challenges. Our Cat Act Discussion Paper explores why the cat welfare crisis continues, the changes we believe are urgently needed, and how you can help shape a better future. If you care about cats, responsible pet ownership, and lasting change, we encourage you to take a few minutes to read it.

At just two years old, Peanut was found wandering as a stray. He wasn't microchipped or desexed, but his affectionate nature suggests he'd once known the love of a family. After being found with a badly broken tail, he underwent surgery at Mill Point Vet before coming to Cat Haven. Now fully recovered, Peanut is searching for a forever home. Sadly, his story reflects the thousands of unidentified, undesexed cats who enter our care each year.

  • Moby (aka Donkey Kong)

Moby arrived at Cat Haven as a stray, without a microchip or having been desexed, despite his affectionate nature suggesting he'd once had a family. He urgently needed complex surgery on both eyes, made possible by the generosity of our supporters. After recovering in foster care, his temporary home became permanent. No cat should have to spend their youth raising kittens when a simple preventative measure could have changed their future.

Today, he's thriving in his forever home, where he's inseparable from his feline best friend.

  • Magnolia

Nine years later, Wonky is thriving, proving just how life-changing a second chance can be.

  • Kittens

These tiny kittens were found all alone, with no mum to protect or care for them. At just a few weeks old, they should never have been trying to survive on the streets. Every kitten deserves a safe start to life.

  • Bernie

Found as a stray, Bernie arrived at Cat Haven needing urgent care. Cat flu left him blind in one eye with limited vision in the other, and he also developed urinary crystals requiring ongoing treatment. Despite these challenges, Bernie is full of personality and keeps his family smiling, even if the occasional wine glass doesn't survive! Today, he's living the happy, loved life every cat deserves.

  • Khaki

When Khaki arrived at Cat Haven as a frightened, unsocialised kitten, he hissed, scratched and wanted nothing to do with people. This once undomesticated kitten has become the sweetest, most affectionate boy.
