  • Gary Westacott (Chair of Board)

Gary is a highly experienced Accountant (CPA), with over 34 years of expertise in his field. For the last 15  years he has been a Senior Consultant working for a prominent IT consulting company, where he specialises in implementing financial software and developing complex financial models for large organisations. He has worked across most industries and is an expert in financial analysis, budgeting and planning, banking and leading large projects.

Outside of his professional life, Gary is deeply involved in animal welfare where he has been a foster carer for four years at the Cat Haven, helping cats that struggle in shelter environments. Listed as an expert on the Cat Haven foster carers page, Gary frequently offers his advice. Prior to this Gary volunteered at another rescue for over 10 years.

Gary’s passion for cats extends into his personal life as well. Alongside his wife, he co-founded a cat behaviour training business, which has now been successfully running for nine years. Together, they work to improve the lives of cats and promote responsible ownership. They also have their own cats with one Cat Haven foster fail.

  • Heather Crawford (Deputy Chair of Board)

My name is Heather Crawford, and I have worked with animals all my life in many different capacities. I have many years of experience in fieldwork, laboratory work, animal husbandry in captivity and animal population management. I have earned certificates in Veterinary Nursing, Wildlife rehabilitation, Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law, and Cat Behaviour. I also have a university degree in Zoology and Physiology, and an Honours degree in Conservation and Wildlife Biology. In addition to working at Murdoch University as the Animal Ethics Advisor for research and teaching, I run a private consultancy that helps cat owners with behaviour issues. Although I have worked in several countries with many different species, the humble domestic cat has always fascinated me, none more so than my stunning cat, Zimba (pictured) who has taught me so much about the nature of cats.

My association with the Cat Haven dates back to 2013, when I began studying for a PhD that examined different strategies for managing populations of unowned stray cats. Collaboration with the amazing team at Cat Haven, enabled me to publish several academic papers about the health and activities of stray and roaming pet cats. Importantly, I was also able to demonstrate that free cat adoption drives, that are promoted periodically by the Cat Haven, do not compromise the care that cats receive from adopters. Although my PhD is long since completed, my links with Cat Haven have continued, and I have worked with them as a consultant to develop educational presentations about cat behaviour and welfare, for staff, schools, local government councils and even parliament! It was perhaps inevitable then, that after more than 10 years of casual collaboration, I volunteered to join the Cat Haven Board in 2025. I have a keen interest in the health of stray cats, the topics of desexing and euthanasia, and the welfare of cats that spend long periods in shelters. I also wish to understand the fate of cats that are adopted and I will work closely with Cat Haven staff to improve outcomes for cats in these areas.

I believe that the Cat Haven is in a unique position to inform policy and development of legislation with the cat data they have collected for decades. I hope to help the Cat Haven use this wealth of information to garner government funding and promote their brand so that everyone in Australia knows about the amazing work they do.

  • Michelle Moroney

Michelle is a lifelong cat lover, having grown up with cats and coming from a family of cat people. Michelle’s involvement with Cat Haven began when she joined as a member, subsequently leading to her becoming a foster carer and promptly foster failing shortly afterwards when she permanently adopted her cat Aloha.

In her professional life, Michelle is an economist with experience from both Government and consulting in Australia and abroad. Currently, Michelle works in the Economic and Financial Consulting segment of a prominent consulting company where, in addition to applying her broader technical and commercial skillset, she specialises in energy economics and regulatory analysis. Michelle holds a Master of Economics, Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Business Administration and has completed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst program.

Michelle is keen to advance Cat Haven’s mission that every WA cat should be a well cared-for cat. Michelle is interested in using her skills to support Cat Haven’s operations and management, including through input to its strategic planning and project management activities as well as
Cat Haven’s participation in policy development affecting cats and cat welfare.

  • Kirstie Beveridge (Treasurer)

Kirstie joined the Cat Haven Board because of her lifelong love of animals and her belief that every cat deserves a safe, caring home. As a passionate advocate for animal welfare, she is proud to support an organisation that makes such a meaningful difference to the lives of thousands of cats and their future families each year.

Professionally, Kirstie is a senior executive with extensive experience in finance, people and culture, governance, and organisational leadership within the not-for-profit sector. She enjoys using these skills to help purpose-driven organisations thrive and create positive outcomes for their communities.

At home, Kirstie shares her life with her family and understands the joy, companionship, and unconditional love that pets especially cats bring. She is particularly passionate about responsible pet ownership, animal welfare education, and ensuring organisations like Cat Haven can continue their vital work for
    generations to come.

  • Douglas Logan- Nelson

Douglas is a media and events professional at Seven West Media, where his work includes the delivery of major event projects such as the Channel 7 Christmas Pageant, along with key fundraising events for Telethon including the Telethon Ball and the Leeuwin Lunch. Earlier in his career at OMD WA, he worked across a range of clients including McDonald's, the WA Health Department and St Ives Retirement Living.

He brings this experience in media, marketing and large-scale event management to the Cat Haven Board, where he is keen to support the organisation's fundraising and profile in the WA community.

Douglas is passionate about animal welfare and the work Cat Haven does across the state. He and his family share their home with Sweeney, 15, and Larry, 13, both adopted from Cat Haven as kittens.

Charles enjoys volunteering, most recently with Telethon Community Cinemas.

Charles has been a cat person since childhood and currently shares his home with two cats, Buddy and Hazel, both adopted as kittens from Cat Haven.

  • Brigitte Bouhours (Secretary)

Brigitte started volunteering with Cat Haven in 2021 when she researched the
history of Cat Haven for the 60th Birthday celebrations. She joined the
Board of Secretary in 2025. She has been involved in the planning and creation
of Cat Haven's two op-shops and volunteers at the Scarborough op shop. She volunteers at Wet Nose Day and other fundraising events as well as helping with preparations for these events.

Brigitte has an academic background in Sociology and Criminology and over 20
years’ experience in research and consultancy. Currently employed in Research Development in a large medical research institute, Brigitte has a lot of
practice writing funding submissions, along with expertise in strategic
thinking, planning, budgeting and managing research projects. She wants to use these skills to support the work of Cat Haven and particularly investigate and secure new grants for Cat Haven.

Brigitte is passionate about animal welfare and has a strong interest in
responsible cat ownership and management to improve cat welfare but also to limit the impact cats have on the environment. She is keen to research
solutions for dealing with stray cats, and issues such as cat containment to
learn about what has been tried elsewhere and what works.

Cats have always been part of Brigitte's life. She was raised with a black
kitten, born on the same day as her. He was followed over time by a number of
stray and adopted cats. She currently shares her home with Manu, and
11-year-old boy adopted from Cat Haven in 2017.
